Salt Lake County Government Center

The Salt Lake County Government Center was completed in March 1985, and is located at 2001 South State Street. The facility contains the elected offices of Salt Lake County government including, Assessor, Auditor, Clerk, Council, District Attorney, Mayor, Recorder, Sheriff, Surveyor, and the Treasurer. It also houses departments of the County that include Administration, Community and Human Services, and Public Works. In addition, the Salt Lake County Justice Court is located in this building. Other non-government entities such as Mountain America Credit Union, a daycare facility, full cafeteria and USU extension are on site too. Because the Government Center offers a wide variety of public services, our security operation must be equally diverse and dynamic.

The Protective Services Division has several sworn officers posted at this location that provide building and courtroom security. We utilize surveillance, magnetometers and x-ray machines at control points, personal contact, and our observation skills to ensure the safety of our citizens, employees, and representatives. Our officers conduct proactive security patrols of the interior and exterior of the building, including the parking terrace and neighboring County senior housing. Distributing and collecting the departments’ money boxes is a daily task. We are routinely asked about the location of County offices in the building. Three officers are posted in the Justice Court for security and bailiff duties. Lastly, our own administration’s office is located at the Government Center. This enables our chain of command to have a direct presence in our operation.
