Capital Theater

The historic Capitol Theatre has been one of Salt Lake County’s premiere fine arts venues for almost a century. Built in 1913 and renovated in 1975, it has hosted every type of show from the first silent films to current world class Broadway productions. The theatre seats 1,876 and is busy year round with concerts, dance, plays, lectures, classes, and VIP events. It is home to Ballet West, Broadway Across America – Utah, Utah Opera and Children’s Dance Theatre.

Since 1978, the Protective Services Division has provided security at the theater. By maintaining a law enforcement presence, officers are available to immediately respond to emergencies and assist in the detection and prevention of problems. The onsite officer plays a key role in maintaining the safety of the historic theater, as demonstrated recently in 2010 when a fire near the stage was discovered and extinguished by an officer before it could cause significant damage< a href="http://www.ksl.com/index.php?hl=6&sid=10130437. Protective Service Officers work diligently to protect the theatre, staff, visiting shows, their assets and especially the public as they enjoy this State landmark.
