Jail Services
The Salt Lake Adult Detention Center Jails Health Services Division provides all inclusive services for the health care needs of prisoners incarcerated. These services range from acute medical and mental health needs to group therapy sessions. The health care is based on the standards of the National Commission on Correctional Health Care, which outlines medically necessary services in a format that meets constitutional standards.

FAQ’s regarding health services:
HIPPA or Patient Privacy policies apply to health services within the Salt Lake County ADC
- This means that in order to receive any information regarding a prisoner’s health care; the prisoner must sign a release authorizing us to do so.
Are prescription medications available in the jail?
- Anyone entering the facility having verifiable medications will be evaluated by a member of the clinical staff regarding their medication therapy while incarcerated. Any medication provided through prescription in the jail must be done by a member of the jail’s clinical staff.
Can someone have medication brought to them from home
- Any medication brought to the facility by an outside party will be used for verification purposes only. Any and all medication prescribed within the facility must be done so by the jail’s clinical staff.
How quickly are medications dispensed?
- Once prescribed by a member of the clinical staff, medication can take between 24 to 72 hours to receive. Critical medication can be started more rapidly, however that is at the discretion of the clinical staff.
What kinds of services are provided in the jail?
- There is a fully staffed mental health and medical program functioning within the facility. Anyone entering the facility reporting a history of health disorders and/or treatment will be evaluated by a healthcare professional.
What if an inmate needs to talk to someone about a problem immediately?
- There is at least one member of the mental health staff working within the facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Anyone requesting an immediate mental health intervention, or “crisis,” has access to mental health staff at any time.
