Jail Programs
In 2007 specialized units at the Salt Lake County Metro Jail were merged into a newly created Jail Programs Division. The Division’s purpose is twofold: to expand and more efficiently operate existing jail and alternative incarceration programs, and to develop and operate a vocational training and jail industries program.
A top priority of the Programs Division is to create partnerships with the community and with other professional organizations to
- Assist jail staff with the management of the prisoner population
- Prepare prisoners for productive re-entry into the community
- Reduce recidivism and jail overcrowding
- Provide prisoners with opportunities for positive personal growth
