Southwest Precinct
The Southwest Precinct administrative office is located at 13272 South 5600 West in Herriman. The Southwest Precinct oversees patrol operations for the cities of Herriman, Bluffdale, and the unincorporated areas of Copperton and Southwest Salt Lake County.
This area is one of the fastest growing areas in Salt Lake County with a current population of approximately 30,000 residents.
Geographically, the Southwest Precinct covers approximately 35 square miles of landmass which includes 25 square miles of residential areas, several miles of paved trails, Butterfield, Yellowfork, and Rose Canyons, and the Kennecott Copper Mine.
The Precinct is managed by a Captain, an Administrative Sergeant, a secretary, and nineteen Deputies. Each participating city determines their own number of patrol officers which is then combined with adjacent cities to provide the highest level of service and economies of scale for the residents we serve.
This past year the Southwest Precinct spearheaded the introduction of the prescription drug collection program. This program provides residents the ability to dispose of their unused prescription drug medications safely without contaminating our water supplies. The drop box is located in the lobby of the Sheriff’s Herriman substation in the lobby. Simply bring in the medications and drop them in the box. They are then taken to an incinerator for destruction. This not only helps protect our water sources but also gets these medicines out of the home so that children and youth cannot accidentally or intentionally miss-use them.
The Southwest Precinct also gladly participates in Neighborhood Watch and Community Meetings. We offer Safe Passage, Child Digital Fingerprint and Photo Records, Bicycle Rodeos, DARE, Officer Friendly, and other programs.
