Salt Lake Area Gang Project

A Federally Funded, Multi-Jurisdictional Gang Unit.

Goals And Objectives

The Salt Lake Area Gang Project was established to identify, control, and prevent criminal gang activity in the jurisdictions covered by the Project and to provide intelligence data and investigative assistance to law enforcement agencies. The Project also provides youths with information on viable alternatives to gang membership and educates the public about the destructiveness of the gang lifestyle.

Organization

Governing Board

The Salt Lake Area Gang Project is administered by a Governing Board that is made up of police chiefs and administrative personnel from the agencies that participate in the Project.

Community Advisory Board

The Community Advisory Board is comprised of community leaders from many different backgrounds. It serves as a link between the Governing Board and the community. This board is responsible for providing community input, supporting constructive legislation, and working to resolve community problems.

Gang Unit Personnel

Sworn Personnel. A Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office lieutenant serves as the Project Director and is responsible for every aspect of the Project's operation. Three sergeants report to the lieutenant and the daily operation of the Project is their responsibility. Each sergeant commands a squad of detectives. The detectives' duties include:

Civilian Personnel. The Project employs an office manager, a criminal analyst, and a community coordinator.
