Winter Driving in the Canyons
The onset of winter conditions in the canyons requires several restrictions aimed at
increasing safety and allowing better traffic flow.
REMEMBERING THE FOLLOWING RESTRICTIONS WILL SAVE EVERYONE TIME:
- Snow tires and chains are required from November 1st through May 15th
- 4-Wheel Drive vehicles and chain restrictions monitored by UDOT, if you do not drive a 4x4 you must have
snow tires on your vehicle and chains available in your vehicle
- No parking or standing in avalanche paths, these are well-marked by signs along the road
- No parking on the road for snow removal
- Park and Ride lots at the mouth of the canyons fill up quickly and there is no overnight parking in these lots
November 1st through April 1st, vehicles may park there from 7:00am to midnight, after that
vehicles will be towed at the owner's expense.
We are asking you to obey all traffic devises that UDOT places on the canyon roads, violation
of any of these restrictions will result in a citation, and the possibility that your vehicle will be towed. If you
call the following numbers before you leave your house may save you time:
- Utah Avalanche Forecast Center -- 364-1581
- Local Canyon Road Conditions -- 964-6000
