The Sheriffs Corrections Officers perform a wide variety of tasks. In addition to ensuring the safety and security of the staff and prisoners in the county jail, officers are responsible for facilitating the prisoners progress through the criminal justice system. Officers are also responsible for providing basic quality of life needs, appropriate medical and mental health care, and supervision of life skills and/or substance abuse treatment programs for prisoners in our facilities. Officers work a variety of hours including day, afternoon, or graveyard shifts, holidays, and weekends. The Sheriffs Protective Services Officers are responsible for providing a security presence at various County and State facilities. Protective Service Officers will conduct investigations, searches, make arrests, and utilize necessary force to ensure the public peace and safety is maintained. Officer assignments include, Matheson Courthouse, West Jordan Courthouse, Salt Lake County Justice Court, Salt Lake County Government Center, Salt Lake County Art Facilities, Clark Planetarium, Youth Services, Criminal Justice Services, and Public Works. In addition, officers routinely patrol and check upon the County€s libraries, senior centers, recreation centers and other various County buildings.
