Snow Days & Snow Removal
With the winter months upon us and the threat of snow in the Valley, the Sheriffs Office would like to remind the public about parking on the roadways. Starting in the month of November and throughout the month of April, there are restrictions for parking on the roads.
We encourage all the citizens who have the need to park on the road during these months to check their City or County ordinances for restrictions.
In an effort to assist the snow removal trucks and to keep roads clear for emergency vehicles, the Sheriffs Office may write citations. Additional action may be taken against violators to keep the roads and neighborhoods safe.
We understand that this is not always easy for people to comply with due to the lack of driveway space or other issues. However, we need to make every effort possible to keep our vehicles off the streets when there is snow on the roads.
Salt Lake County Ordinances
11.20.130 Parking prohibited when.
No person shall park a vehicle on any county street when it is snowing or snow is on the street during the months of November, December, January, February, March and April. (Ord. 1286 §§ 1, 2, 1994: Ord. 1099 § 3, 1990: prior code § 21-4-9)
Herriman City
Current City ordinance prohibits parking on the street when it is snowing or there is snow on the street; from November 1st - April 1st. Residents can also help by removing vehicles, trailers, garbage cans, etc. from the street during this time as well.
Riverton City
Below is our Limited Winter Parking Ordinance #11-3-45:
It shall be unlawful for any person or owner of any vehicle to park a motor vehicle, travel trailer, horse trailer, utility trailer or other like vehicle on any street in this municipality between the 1st day of November of each year and the first day of April of the following year, for a period of time longer than three minutes when loading or unloading passengers and for a period of time longer than thirty minutes when loading, unloading or delivering property between the hours of 12:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. on the streets of Riverton City. Violation of this ordinance shall be punishable by citation or impounding and removal of the vehicle.
Holladay City
11.20.130: PARKING PROHIBITED WHEN:
It is unlawful for any person who owns or has possession, custody or control of any vehicle to park or knowingly allow to be parked any vehicle on any street:
A. After a snow accumulation of four inches (4") or more, until twenty four (24) hours after the end of such accumulation;
