Fiscal Division

The Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office remains the largest in the state of Utah. It has responsibilities for municipal law enforcement, jails, courts, Search & Rescue, and more.

The Fiscal Division of the Sheriff's Office is responsible for the accounting of all Office budgeting, purchasing, and payroll. This work is done for an organization approximately 1,100 members strong. The diverse operations include: illegal drug investigations, police radios, office supplies, and inmate dispensary items. The Office was also responsible for managing the construction of the new 135 million dollar Adult Detention Facility. This enormous fiscal respon-sibility is closely managed by the Sheriff through the Fiscal Division.

The increase in patrol deputies, inmate populations, correctional officers, and the acquisition of additional bed space has significantly increased the demands on the Division. Budgeting accounting, purchasing, grant and contract management, and payroll are the critical functions of the Division. The increased demands are best illustrated by comparison of the Office budget of $36,010,731 in 1991 to the 2000 Budget of $99,296,494. In 1999, total appropriations for the Sheriff's Office amounted to $87,811,262. The division processed contracts and grants with total revenues of $16,351,354.

The Fiscal Division makes every effort to assist Office members in the procurement of supplies and equipment needed to fulfill their various duties and assignments. In an effort to promote efficiency, the Division's design is to respond timely to requests and endeavor to ease the required paperwork in relation to these and other fiscal issues including salaries, insurance, and retirement.

The enormous task is manage by several dedicated, professional member of the Office who officiate in non-traditional roles of law enforcement that are, nonetheless, critical to successful operations.
